Bob directs the fixed-income investment management activities for the firm, including the portfolio management, research, trading, and investment risk management. In this role, he implements our fixed-income strategy for the individual bond portion of client portfolios and the Balanced Fund.

Shortly after joining Mairs & Power, he was promoted to Vice President. In April 2018, Bob was named co-manager of the Balanced Fund. In addition, Bob is the co-manager for the Minnesota Municipal Bond ETF.

Earlier in his career, Bob served as Vice President, Corporate Bonds at Advantus Capital Management in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he helped run a total return mutual fund, the insurance company general account and various separate accounts. He also held a senior position at Lutheran Brotherhood (now Thrivent Financial) where he was a Senior Securities Analyst covering high yield, investment-grade corporate and municipal bonds, equity and convertible securities, private equity and private bonds. Previously, he worked in accounting at Cargill Incorporated.

Bob earned a Bachelor of Accountancy from the University of North Dakota and an MBA in Finance from the University of Minnesota. He is a CFA charterholder and a Certified Public Accountant (inactive).

Bob is a member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and has experience in advising the Taft Hartley plans.

Bob enjoys traveling, golf, hockey, theatre, spending time with his two dogs, and supporting two local organizations in honor of his late wife Kathy. Bob actively supports Camp Odayin - For Kids with Heart Disease (via the Kathy Stender Thompson Camper Scholarship Fund) and the Kathy Stender Thompson Memorial Fund at the University of Minnesota Foundation.
