Lucas joined Mairs & Power as a Quantitative Equity Analyst in January 2018. In this role, he conducts quantitative research to identify and rigorously test long-term trends in company fundamentals and market conditions for statistical significance and practical use. He develops and monitors proprietary multi-factor models that are presented to the rest of the Investment Committee to assist in the investment process. Since joining the firm, his responsibilities have expanded to include fundamental equity research, where he conducts extensive due diligence on current and potential holdings, interacts with sell-side analysts, examines company filings and presentations, and interviews management teams, customers, suppliers, and competitors. He creates Durable Competitive Advantage reports based on Porter's 5 Forces for each company under coverage in order to grade its current competitive position, assess the sustainability of its competitive advantage, and determine the direction of its competitive position, assess the sustainability of its competitive advantage, and determine the direction of its competitive advantage going forward.
Lucas began his career as an Investment Management Specialist at Wells Fargo Private Bank in Minneapolis, where he worked on a team of financial professionals that delivered full-balance-sheet solutions to individuals and institutions.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Finance from Bethel University, where he graduated at the top of his class. Lucas is a CFA charterholder.
In addition to his professional activities, Lucas spends time as the program director for the Royals Investment Fund, LLC, a student-managed investment fund at Bethel University, where he mentors students and teaches them skills for a career in the financial services industry. He is also an active member of and volunteer at the CFA Society of Minnesota.
Lucas spends most of his time off alpine skiing in the winter, but in the summer, he enjoys golfing and gardening with his high school sweetheart, Taylor, and dog, Ace.
